GLENAVON V BALLYMENA UNITED, A LOOK AHEAD 366s66
On Saturday 19th April 2025 Glenavon faces Ballymena United at Mourneview Park. It is both clubs’ penultimate Sports Direct Premiership fixture of the season. 6s2l2c
When the North Antrim men travelled to Lurgan in October they led the Premiership table after an impressive run of seven straight wins. Since then, they have struggled for consistency and are destined to not only finish in the bottom six but also miss out on seventh place and the Europa Conference League Qualification play-offs.
With Glenavon’s premiership status secure, Paddy McLaughlin intends to keep building towards next season. “We will continue to give some of the up and coming talent at the club opportunities to play and show us what they can do,” he said. “The young players are the future. We have seen how gifted they are in training. Now is the ideal time to let them play.”
Although McLaughlin was disappointed with the 2-0 defeat at Cliftonville last weekend, he felt that Glenavon performed well. “We matched them for long periods and were very much in the game until they scored their second goal. Young Ben Wilson was fantastic, Paul McGovern was very good, and Chris Atherton was lively throughout. Perhaps we didn’t put them under enough pressure during the second half. That was my only criticism.”
The Northwest native hopes for a good performance in the club’s final home fixture of the campaign. “We want to end well,” added Paddy. “The ers have been tremendous since November. They have stuck with us and have turned out in big numbers. Whilst they are probably disappointed with our results in recent weeks, they hopefully understand that there is a bigger picture. Nevertheless, we will do our best to finish with a win.”
The match against Ballymena is sponsored by The Patience Rewarded Syndicate and the City of Armagh Glenavon ers’ Club.
The match ball sponsor is Jess’s Pet Parlour, Dollingstown.
The McCracken’s Brewery “Player of the Match” sponsor is Hollie Berrie at the Tearooms, Scarva, County Down.
Glenavon lost twice to Ballymena in the autumn – 3-1 at the Showgrounds and 1-0 at Mourneview Park. However, Paddy McLaughlin’s men defeated United 2-0 at Warden Street at the end of December.
